What is an Elevator Pitch?

Speaking with a few seasoned professionals and freshers who are my mentees. It’s been great to connect with them and hear about their career paths. However, when I asked about their 'Elevator Pitch' they went blank for a few minutes and said, What's that? We've never heard of it in our entire careers.

I took a moment to collect my thoughts and replied, no worries, I’ve got you covered! I appreciate your honesty, and I’m thrilled to help you learn something new!

I continued; Let’s dive into it you’re going to find this really valuable. By the end of our session, you’ll have a clear understanding of how to create your own Elevator Pitch.

What is an “Elevator Pitch”?

In today’s job market, an Elevator Pitch is how you quickly and compellingly summarize who you are, what you do, and what you bring to the table. Moreover, it’s a concise summary of your professional identity, key strengths, achievements, and what you’re looking for in your next role.

Here’s how I help them craft an Elevator Pitch:

Write down your pitch: Introduce yourself by starting with your name and a brief professional title or description.

Be clear and concise: Avoid jargon and keep your message straightforward. Aim to communicate your key points quickly and effectively.

Keep it brief: Aim for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Your pitch should fit comfortably into a short conversation, like an elevator ride.

Practice: Rehearse your pitch until it feels natural. Practice with friends, mentors, or in front of a mirror.

Highlight your skills: What makes you different from others? Focus on your unique strengths and achievements.

Remember, a well-prepared 30-second to 1-minute pitch can open doors to new opportunities. Make every word count!
